A poem, on poetry

When I finished reading “Why I wake early.”
By Mary Oliver, I thought to myself
I will never be as good a poet as her

And then I thought, I don’t want to
I want to be as good as I can be
The best poet Sylvia van Bruggen can be

Then I have fulfilled my destiny, sharing
My wisdom, my soul, my quiet, my silliness
Into my poems every single day

And share them with the world, fearless
Because Mary does that too, so I can
Find stillness in her words, and give thanks
