And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.
Even though I’m often in a mess, inside me there’s still a calm, clear, harmony of music.
Vincent van Gogh
I love this quote. I have often felt like this quote, as both the dancer and the spectator. Sometimes, I was both 🙂
And I have often felt like I was insane too, for thinking and feeling something about life that went completely against those of other humans.
Case in point: I believe in play. I believe that if every adult learns to add more play in their life, it will make the world a much better place.
There are those who think me completely weird for that belief. They think that I wanna act like a child, for instance. Or they think that I am a dreamer (well, I am in part guilty of the latter, being a professional daydreamer ?) for thinking that play changes the world.
Every time that happens, I think of this quote. When I second-guess myself, I stop hearing the music.
When I remind myself that the music I hear may be different from the music someone else dances to, I dance.
We all dance to a different melody, and sometimes —just by living our dance— we help others to hear their music.
And that is something I love most of all!
