Last year my husband suddenly exclaimed, “Yes! It worked!”
He told me to check my email and, immediately giving in to my curiosity, I did. Moments later I cheered and hugged him. He had just booked tickets to go see Neil Gaiman in Cologne.
It wasn’t the first time I would see Neil. The first time I went to one of his readings, he would give four in two days, ata fantasy fair.I was a completely shy and awkward fangirl, who babbled some non-sensical stuff at him beforescooting off, giggling like mad. The other three signings were a bit better, but not much.
I got better at acting like a normal human being the couple times Isaw him afterwards. This time I decided to just talk to him.
While waiting in line for the signing, I got bored and started to doodle him from a picture I had taken during the reading, one of those rapidly sketched doodles that I love to make.
I put it on top of the book I brought to be signedand watched him interact with his fans. He had a kind word for each one. He always doesand I love him for that.
